During the award ceremony on June 20, 2025 (link), Shubhradip Guchait and Friedrich Walzel both received the Thesis Award of the University of Strasbourg.
Shubhradip Guchait conducted his doctoral research on the topic “Phase-selective doping controls thermoelectric properties and stability in conducting polymer films” (thesis link) in the SYCOMMOR team at the Institut Charles Sadron, under the supervision of Martin Brinkmann. By combining multiple experimental techniques, he successfully deciphered the doping mechanism by ion exchange, leading to a significant advance in the understanding of the long-term stability of doped polymer materials for thermoelectric applications.
Friedrich Walzel completed his thesis entitled “From interacting bubbles and drops to soft capsules: shape, mechanics and stability analysis” (thesis link) under the supervision of Thierry Charitat (M3 team) and Wiebke Drenckhan (MIM team). Through a combination of experiments, simulations, and theoretical analysis, he developed novel methods to characterize the complex interactions between soft objects such as bubbles and drops, uncovering and explaining previously unknown instabilities.
Congratulations to both of them!
